Betting on a bright future for sport bikes in China, Ducati Motor Holding of
Bologna, Italy, has reached a long-term import agreement with a Chinese firm to
sell Ducati motorcycles, parts, and accessories through two new retail outlets
in Beijing and Shanghai. Federico Minoli, chairman and CEO of Ducati, made the
announcement earlier this year at the Chinese round of the World MotoGP,
motorcycle racing’s first-ever grand prix in this land of 1.3 billion potential
enthusiasts. Ducati’s Chinese partner is Three on the Bund, a large-scale retail
firm chaired by Handel Lee, a passionate Ducatista. Lee has already opened a
Ducati clothing store in Shanghai, allowing the elite Italian marque to spread
its name in China, and there are plans to open two riding schools to promote
high-performance motorcycling—and Ducatis—to a wider population.
