MotorCycling Achievement in Design: Spidi Lizard Pro & Icon Bombshell
Kelly Callan
02/01/2007

As women, we have a vested interest in increasing our presence in the motorcycle marketplace. Since the dawn of two-wheeled transportation, men have had a wide choice of apparel—not so for women, despite the fact that nature bestowed us with a heightened sense of fashion and design.

Icon Motosports’ Bombshell line skillfully treads the line between custom and sport, offering feminine apparel that appeals to a woman, whether she’s astride a Ducati or a Harley-Davidson. The tailored leather Bombshell jacket and pants caress the wearer in a cocoon of CE-approved safety and moto culture style. Wisely chosen stretch points and buckles ensure the rider is readily recognizable as female. To preempt any notion of misidentification, the Bombshell boots’ faux high-heels and domineering buckles enhance the explosive allure of the line.

Fast women are taking to the secure confines of racetracks in increasing numbers. Spidi’s new Lizard Pro one-piece race suit is the splendid result of three years of development. As fully protective as a professional race suit must be, the Lizard Pro is cut to affectionately follow a woman’s delicate contours. The snug, secure and sexy fit is successfully designed to work in conjunction with a superbike’s ergonomics. Elastic Schoeller Keprotec panels are generously dispersed, assuring easy movement on the motorcycle, offering supple encouragement to drag Spidi’s bi-phase knee sliders through a turn. At the extremities, Spidi Strada ladies gloves and Spidi B-2 boots are designed with women’s unique proportions in mind, and more toward street than track duty. Though not exclusively designed for women, the Suomy Spec-1R Extreme helmet is claimed to be the lightest track-approved helmet, while the floral graphics scheme is unquestionably feminine.
