Track apparel is the choice of some for on-road sport riding, but there’s an
undeniable appeal to purpose-designed road-riding gear. Spidi’s Step In Road
H20UT jacket ($530) is an excellent example, as it offers the protection of
leather with the practicality of waterproofing and comfort of strategically
placed Tenax 440-treated Teflon-coated nylon. CD-certified impact protection is
placed in the shoulder, elbow and back areas. Spidi’s Unit leather pants ($430) continue the leather and safety
theme, thanks to CE-certified knee, shin and hip pads and Biphase knee sliders.
As road riding pants, they are water repellant and have a convenient front
pocket. (Click image to enlarge)
They may not be waterproof, but Spidi’s Composite gloves ($155) enjoy
frequent use as we ride between home and office on Mulholland Highway at brisk
speeds. Two Velcro closures and variable-density Penta knuckle protection give
us the security we demand when fraternizing with automobiles. The boot of choice for that same intra-Malibu commute is the Sidi Strada Evo
Te-Por ($220). A breathable water-resistant membrane makes these all-weather
boots, while the combination of supple split-grain leather and Lorica synthetic
leather is comfortable for walking and riding. An ankle protection system and
shin protector are confidence-inspiring, as well as stylish and comfortable. www.motonation.com
