Proper body position, line-of-sight and race line—the end results of an intensive 2-day school. (Click image to enlarge)
For motorcyclists willing to challenge themselves to become better and safer riders, no matter what level they ride at, what type of machine they ride, or what roads they explore, Freddie Spencer’s High Performance Riding School will fascinate them, and perhaps even save them from an expensive mistake.

Catching up with Fast Freddie
Born in 1961 in Shreveport, La., Freddie Spencer began racing dirt track motorcycles at age 4. He started road racing at 11 and by 15 had won 12 amateur national championships. Turning pro in 1978 at 18, he won every race in the novice AMA 250cc Grand Prix class, clinching his first AMA national championship. In 1983, Spencer became the youngest rider to win a 500cc world championship, defeating Kenny Roberts in the final race of the season by only two points. In 1985, Spencer captured both the 250cc and 500cc world championships—a unique feat to this day. In the 11 500cc races, Spencer qualified first nine times, won seven races, and set nine new track records. That same year he also won all three major divisions (250cc, 500cc, and Superbike) at Daytona, and is still the only racer ever to do so. He retired from Grand Prix racing in 1988 and raced in AMA Superbike Series events until he retired from competition in 1996. —t.c.

The Ultimate Riding Experience
Freddie Spencer’s High Performance Riding School offers several types of classes. From the street and sport rider to the professional racer, any motorcyclist will find a session that suits his level of comfort and ability. Several past and present champions have been coached by Spencer, including former AMA Superbike Champion Nicky Hayden, who has now attended the school eight times. If your time is limited and learning from Spencer is a lifelong dream, the school can offer a custom-tailored package to suit you. In the past, this has included a suite at Las Vegas’ Venetian hotel, a limousine to the track each day, and personal training sessions with Spencer himself, either alone or with a friend. Personal packages start at $10,000. —t.c.
