In 1984, Buell Motorcycle Company got its start, building RW750 race bikes for private road racing teams. Those days have returned with the new XBRR, Buell’s offering to independent AMA Formula Extreme racers. Based on the Buell Firebolt XB12R street bike, the XBRR has so far earned top 10 finishing positions. We rode the XBRR at Buttonwillow Raceway Park in central California, and came away impressed with the 150-hp V-twin, stable handling and, especially, the stopping power of the eight-piston/single-disc ZTL braking system of the limited production racer.
