When one has the resources of Lockhart Phillips USA at his disposal, he can be certain of getting precisely the motorcycle he desires. Such is the case with Wendell Phillips’ Ducati ST4R, a tour de force of supersport touring customization.

Though not visible, the most alarming modification on the ST4R is its full-on Superbike motor built by Apex Predator Racing’s Quentin Wilson, one of Eric Bostrom’s race technicians. SPS camshafts, Bucci high-compression pistons, titanium connecting rods, a ported head, larger injectors, a custom Arrow exhaust and an STM SBK slipper clutch only scratch the surface of the powerplant modifications.

JACKET + PANTS. The Mercury Flex Tech Jacket and Jean combination are part of the Olympia Moto Sports Premium Leather Collection. Offering full armor and a removeable Thermolite liner, the Mercury combines distinictive, sophisticated elegence with the comfort and security of 1.2 mm Nubuck cowhide. HELMET. Simpson’s Outlaw helmet is headwear designed for bare-knuckle canyon brawling. No frills styling and a matte black finish mimics the Lockhart Phillips Ducati ST4R’s upper fairing, as does the white/red Simpson logo. BOOTS + GLOVES. Prepared for unpredictable weather, Tour Master Waterproof Road Boots are comfortable, protective and understatedly tasteful. Spidi’s Strada gloves utilize racing-sourced features for serious sport/touring. (Click image to enlarge)

A Penske rear shock with a RCS titanium spring moves the ride height up an inch for improved turning and clearance. Race Tech reworked the fork internals to help accommodate the increased performance. A Toby steering damper stabilizes the ST4R’s higher speeds.

Visually, the color scheme is inspired by the HMC Ducati 749 Formula Extreme racing motorcycle, as evidenced by the red powdercoated frame, anodized black swingarm, and clear-coated black matte paint on the fairing. A Lockhart Phillips tailpiece conversion moves the ST4R’s styling cues even farther into the sporting realm.

CLUTCH. Designed for Ducati World Superbike race machines, the STM SBK slipper clutch is able to harness 200 hp motors while continuing to deliver a light clutch pull. Differently degreed ramps allow the owner to customize the slipping action to his style of riding. EXHAUST. The Options Italia Arrow exhaust system joins a stainless steel midsection to a carbon fiber cannister for the desired exhaust tone and performance.
