Widely considered to be the fastest
straight-line bikes in MotoGP, Ducati has focused its efforts this season on
reducing weight, improving rideability, and finessing the handling.
 Team
Ducati’s Desmosedici GP06 features a lighter frame, rims, and front forks for
improved agility, while redesigned elements include a seat support structure
that is 80-percent stiffer than last year’s. Reduced engine friction promotes
greater efficiency, and modified internal fluid dynamics provide an improved
thermodynamic layout, resulting in increased power and reduced fuel consumption.
Because enhancing driveability in racing can still result in a beast of a
machine, systems were developed that enable the GP06’s power delivery to be
tailored to rider preference and track conditions. Team riders Loris Capirossi
and Sete Gibernau also appreciate the bike’s improved ergonomics, which further
maximize its awesome performance potential. (Click image to enlarge)
Consistency is on Ducati’s side.
Last year’s season involved 17 races, two riders, and a not a single reliability
issue. Though 40-percent of the parts in Ducati’s 2006 MotoGP bike have been
completely redesigned, the current Desmosedici GP06 is considered an evolution,
not a revolution. If slow and steady improvements win the race for Ducati, viva
la evolution.
