The Montage Resort and Spa, through a combination of extraordinary factors,
appears to have mastered the restorative experience. It is not just a 250-room
bluffside location with sweeping panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and
Laguna, Calif. seaside that will sway you; it might be some of the interesting
motorcyclists you will meet at the lobby bar who have come to enjoy the day or
weekend. The property’s 67 certified sommeliers host a wine
cellar consisting of 2,400 labels and 67,000 bottles. Presiding over the
renowned Studio restaurant is Chef James Boyce, who caters to various dining
requirements with impeccable ease.

Downstairs in the Loft, 120
different types of cheese from around the world are served with exotic
accoutrements by Chef John Cuevos. Poolside, at the Mosaic Bar and Grill, Chef
Omar Gonzalez has the challenging role of holding daytime gastronomic court. The
Spa has a private pool and menu, as well as the sights and sounds of crashing
waves.
However, it is the overwhelming courtesy and professionalism
exhibited by the staff that impresses you, as well as their commitment to
personalizing each experience. Equally inviting are designated parking spots for
motorcycles. For riders who prefer valet service, currently two doormen and
three valets ride bikes themselves. As motorcyclists, we are part of
the scenery as we ride, and at one with the landscape; the Montage is the
beginning of the journey, the oasis in the middle of one, and the reward at the
end of a long trail.
