Continental "Road Attack" Tires
Continental tires
T.C.
03/01/2005

You probably remember Continental tires as original fitments to BMWs way back when. Durable? Certainly. Grippy? Hardly. But that has all changed.

Continental has now dramatically re-entered the world of motorcycling with its new “Road Attack” range of radial tires claiming that their 12 percent larger contact patch delivers not just better grip but also increased mileage. Needless to say, I was skeptical whether the Continentals would perform. Mounted on our long-term test Yamaha FZ-1 at the recommended 42psi rear, 38psi front, the Continental claims proved to be absolutely justified. With no changes to the suspension, I found turn-in to be quick and sure. Coupled with excellent feedback and total front-end confidence, I was able to push deeper into corners than before. Despite deliberately hard throttle inputs the rear never even gave a hint of breakaway and the Yamaha’s excellent handling was unaffected. With a tire that clearly delivers in the performance department I was astounded to ride more than 3,000 miles before they needed replacing—and that included a track day! Continental has moved dramatically closer to the Holy Grail of sport motorcycle tire development: performance and durability in the same package. (Click image to enlarge)
